Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s Little Books Three Beautiful Little Books: These three titles, published by Chronicle Books, will make a welcome addition to your little person’s library. Each one puts a fresh and humorous twist on age-old dilemmas parents encounter while raising children – getting them to eat healthful foods, getting them to bed, and encouraging them to pick up after themselves. Little Oink – Imagine a pig that hates messiness and untidiness and all he wants is to be neat and clean! This is the predicament that Little Oink finds himself bedeviled with. All around him is messiness – spills and dirty clothes and toys on the floors. The one thing Little Oink yearns for is to have his room tidy and his clothes and belongings clean and orderly. But Mama and Papa insist that he be messy, as all little pigs are supposed to. He begrudgingly but dutifully makes a mess: dragging in mud, throwing his folded clothes on the floor, putting on dirty clothes and taking his toys out of their box. Finally, his parents let him go out and play his favorite game – to sweep, scour and scrub his tree house! He mutters to himself “When I grow up, I am going to let my kids clean their rooms as much as they want!” Little Pea - In Little Pea’s world, everyone eats candy as a staple food. Little Pea hates candy and can barely clean his plate. Mother and Father Pea insist that he do so before he can have his favorite dessert – Spinach! This will undoubtedly tickle kids to no end and will provide many entertaining mealtime discussions about such silliness! Little Hoot – “When I grow up, I’m going to let my kids go to bed as early as they want!” A small owl, Little Hoot, hates to stay up late at night and play. He can’t wait for bedtime, but his parents insist that he stay up and play late, as the other owls do – before allowing him to go to sleep. But he’s hooting mad about it! He hangs his head, wishing he could go to bed early and get up early, but after a thorough playtime he finally gets to jump into his bed and is sound asleep in a flash.
