Shawn Manvell’s commitment to helping children who are struggling with speech and language disorders begins with “Articulation with The Speech Wizard”- one of the fastest growing apps in the field and just its progressive, iPad friendly format is not only effective but provides an interactive and engaging experience.
The Speech Wizard was born when Shawn realized the need for communication disorder applications for iPads could be used by children of any developmental level, anywhere, anytime. She is able to continue her vision and passion of providing a successful and exciting approach to speech and language therapy through technology on even a larger scale with now being an app developer.
Her goals and desires are first and foremost for parents and therapists to have a means of a valuable and affordable resources for treatment. Shawn has successfully developed the Articulation with The Speech Wizard app to provide exciting and easy to use therapeutic opportunities for children, and they love it. Articulation with The Speech Wizard app has proven to be a great resource for therapists and teachers as well as busy parents who only want the best for their children.
Articulation with The Speech Wizard app includes a variety of activities for: increasing speech clarity, assisting late talkers, children with speech delays/disorders, auditory discrimination delays/disorders, and phonological disorders.
Articulation with The Speech Wizard provides speech and language pathologists, parents, caregivers and educators with a fun, interactive, easy to use speech therapy application for children. It offers multiple activities for practicing English phonemes in the initial, medial, and final positions of words at three levels of speech: the word, phrase, and sentence levels. There are over 1000 real-life pictures implemented, along with a child’s voice as a model of pronunciation since research indicates that child respond better to a child’s voice. This was felt to be a mandatory feature used in our apps. In order to implement this a child actress was used for voice recordings for our audio examples to ensure better engagement for our users.
“As a licensed and practicing Speech-Language Pathologist, I know the value and necessity of auditory training, such as auditory discrimination skills with articulation and phonological disorders/delays, so that is why I decided to include two activities just for this important and overlooked area in our Articulation app,” said Shawn Manvell. “Auditory discrimination skills are the first component to being able to successfully remediate saying a speech sound correctly. The child must be aware and able to listen for the sound of their own target sound or sounds before we should be expecting them to be producing it”. Our “Sound Hunt” and “Find the Sound” activities make our articulation app unique, as we know and understand the great benefits of auditory discrimination skills with articulation and phonological disorders.
Devoted and fully committed to making the best apps for communication disorders, The Speech Wizard is having two additional apps released that will be available in September 2014. In upcoming months there will be over 20 apps to be launched in The Speech Wizard app series.
