Georgia Homeschooling Laws

The Georgia law that governs homeschooling is O.C.G.A. § 20-2-69. It requires parents or guardians who intend to homeschool their own children or wards, to provide a basic academic educational program which five content areas: ​Math, English Language Arts, Science, Reading and Social Studies.

Overview:
* Homeschooling parents must purchase the curriculum they wish to use
* The teaching parent must possess a high school diploma or a GED
* A Declaration of Intent (DOI) to homeschool must be filed with the GA Dept of Education by Sept 1
   or within 30 days of the establishment of the homeschool program
* Make copies of your Declaration prior to submitting it; it will not be retrievable thereafter

* 180 days minimum mandatory days of instruction at 4.5 hours per day
* Once the DOI is accepted by the state, the teaching parent is considered to be the
    superintendent, principal, teacher or your school
* Mandatory standardized testing occurs at the end of 3rd, 6th & 9th grades
* The teaching parent/guardian must submit an annual progress report in each subject
