Alabama Homeschooling Laws

Overview

This state offers

  • Three Homeschool options:
  1. Private School
  2. Church School
  3. Private Tutor
  • Mandatory Attendance in school from age 6 to 17 years old.
  • Notify the school district, by sending an enrollment form to your local education

Authority.  If child is withdrawing from public school, then you must officially withdraw to homeschool.

  • Alabama Homeschool Law does not require you to meet specific qualifications to homeschool.
  • There are no requirements for a specific amount of days/year or hours/day.
  • There are no required subjects or a specific list of education subjects.
  • Keep records of your child’s attendance throughout the year.
  • Homeschool students are not required to participate in testing.
  • All children, whether attending public or private schools are to be immunized or file an exemption.
