West Virginia Homeschooling Laws
Overview
- Students to attend between the ages of 6 through 16.
- Parent to annually submit an intent to homeschool.
- Submit name, address, and grade level of the child to be instructed.
- Approval must be obtained before beginning to homeschool.
- Parents to obtain a yearly assessment and submit this to the board.
- If child is enrolled in public education the notice of intent shall be given at least two weeks prior to withdrawing the child from public school.
- Along with this annual submission an educational plan, the instruction must be equal to the term of the county.
- Parent must have a high school diploma.
- Any child receiving home instruction may upon approval of the county board has the option to attend any class offered by the county board.
- A homeschooled student is not considered a private school student in West Virginia.
- The superintendent or designee shall offer assistance, including textbooks, other teaching materials and available resources, as may assist the person providing home instruction subject to their availability.
