Iowa Homeschooling Laws
Overview
- Children between the ages of 6 years to 16
- The family provides the total educational program.
- No requirements if providing “independent private instruction.
- 4 options for type of homeschooling: full time home school with the support of a certified teacher; full-time homeschool with the support of certified teacher; part time homeschool, with part time enrollment in a school district; attendance at a non-accredited school.
- Curriculum to include Mathematics, reading and language arts, science, and social studies.
- No requirements if providing “independent private instruction.
- There are no teacher qualifications.
- The cut-off date for determining age is September 15 of each year.
- No proof of child’s immunizations if you homeschool under Independent Private Instruction.
