Texas Homeschooling Laws

Overview:
• Instruction must be real – not a sham or excuse to keep children out of school
• Curriculum must in real form – books, workbooks, video, etc.

  • Curriculum must include reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics and good citizenship (civics), typically
taught in the senior year of high school.
    • If child has been enrolled in public school, a Letter of Intent must be submitted to local school district –
nothing more, i.e., come to the school, present curriculum for review, etc.
    • If child has never been enrolled, no reporting required.
    • Some state colleges and universities have scholarships and other financial aid available to Texas
       homeschoolers.
